How I Create Digital Artwork Using Traditional Methods
Alongside my traditional oil paintings, I also create hand-drawn digital artwork using an iPad and Apple Pencil. Although the medium is digital, the process is entirely traditional — every line, mark, and detail is drawn by hand, using the same principles of observation and craftsmanship that guide my oil work. Nothing is automated or generated; the iPad simply replaces the sketchbook, giving me greater flexibility and room to experiment.
One of the joys of this medium is its accessibility. Digital portraits are often quicker to produce and therefore more affordable, making them a wonderful option for clients seeking unique, personalised art. They also offer exciting versatility: once completed, the artwork can be printed on fine art paper, canvas, cards, or used on accessories and gifts — the possibilities are endless. Each piece remains a one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted artwork that can be shared, displayed, or gifted in many different ways.
